Kyler Murray on Cardinals’ blistering loss to Chiefs: ‘They kicked our ass’ | Launderer Reports
The Arizona Cardinals got off to a rocky start to the 2022 season after suffering a 44-21 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
After the game, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray didn’t mince words when assessing how the game went.
“They kicked our ass,” Murray told reporters.
Murray completed 22 of 34 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns while adding a team-high 29 rushing yards in Sunday’s loss before being retired with 1:47 remaining in the game. He failed to keep up with his counterpart, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was nearly immaculate with 360 yards and five touchdowns on 30 of 39 passes.

Patrick Mahomes had five touchdowns and the team scored 44 points, so it’s hard to give them a grade other than an “A.” The Chiefs proved they had the playmakers they needed to make up for the loss of Tyreek Hill. Travis Kelce and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were two of the game’s biggest stars, scoring one and two touchdowns, respectively. The Chiefs dominated all day as they took a 14-0 lead in a game they never trailed. Yes, it’s only Week 1, but the Chiefs look set to make another deep playoff this season.
Judging NFL Week 1 Overreactions: Chiefs Better Without Tyreek Hill? Will the Patriots finish last? | ESPN
Chiefs offense will be even better without Tyreek Hill
The verdict: OVERREACTION. Look, don’t get mad here. I think the Chiefs offense will be one of the best in the league. I think Mahomes is a legitimate MVP candidate. I think they will win their division for the seventh consecutive year. But I do not think they’re going to score 44 points every week. The Cardinals are hurt on both sides of the ball and weren’t able to resist that. Chiefs’ opponents aren’t going to make that many unforced errors every week.
Hill’s absence will further make defensive coordinators less terrified when planning a game against Kansas City. As long as they have Mahomes, the Chiefs can score at a high level, and this year should be no different. But while they might be a more effective offense without Hill, they won’t be as explosive. No team could. So while I’m high on the Chiefs, and I believe what Mahomes is telling us about how the receiver’s crew diversity will help him grow as a quarterback (scary thought alert!) I’m not prepared to predict that they’ll set any kind of franchise point record just because they dropped 44 points in the desert on Sunday. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong.

Chiefs fans outside KC were furious when CBS Sports cut Sunday’s game | Kansas City Star
CBS Sports thought so, as viewers outside the Kansas City area were dismayed to learn that the network was cutting Raiders-Chargers play in Los Angeles. With the Chiefs leading 44-15 at the time, the move makes sense as the game between the AFC West teams was close.
However, that didn’t sit well with Chiefs fans in other parts of the country who wanted to see Kansas City close out their 44-21 victory in Glendale, Arizona.
Important Note: Kansas City viewers have seen the entire game.
But here’s what some Chiefs fans who weren’t in Kansas City were saying about CBS’s decision.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce joins exclusive club with 30th 100-yard receiving game | Chef’s Wire
Kelce was Patrick Mahomes’ top target against the Cardinals in Week 1, recording eight catches on nine targets for 121 yards and a touchdown. The performance marked the 30th time in his NFL career that he exceeded 100 receiving yards in a single game. It’s quite an impressive milestone for Kelce as the season begins.
Only two other tight ends have recorded as many 100-yard receiving games in NFL history. Those two players are former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski and former Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez. Kelce needs three more 100-yard receiving games this season to claim the No. 1 spot in NFL history.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (throwing hand) requires surgery, to miss several weeks | NFL.com
Head coach Mike McCarthy added after the game that the injury is “significant” and the team expects to hear more about Prescott’s availability Monday morning.
Prescott, who said he would undergo surgery on Monday, described the wound as “much cleaner” than it could have been. He also echoed his coach and owner’s frustration with the injury and the night in general.
“It’s very disappointing,” Prescott said. “But injuries happen. You can’t necessarily control it. It’s just a shame, obviously I’m going to miss some time, not being there for my team. This is what hurts more than anything else, especially after the start we have just given. Wanting to be able to respond and not necessarily having this opportunity for several weeks. Yeah, it’s unfortunate, but I’ll do what I’ve always done whenever adversity comes. Take it head first, do my best, and I’m sure I’ll be better off.
New York Giants hail coach Brian Daboll’s commitment to ‘go for the win’ after successful 2-point try | ESPN
Brian Daboll didn’t think twice about whether his New York Giants should go for the 2-point conversion or kick the tying extra point with 1 minute and 6 seconds left in his first game as coach -chief. He always went with the aggressive approach.
Daboll went for two, which the Giants converted on a shovel pass to running back Saquon Barkley, to upset the Tennessee Titans 21-20 at Nissan Stadium. It was New York’s first Week 1 victory since 2016, which also happens to be the last time it made the playoffs.
Why didn’t Daboll flinch at the vital decision late in Sunday’s season opener?
“Go for the win,” he said. “We are going to be aggressive. That’s what we want to do. This is the mindset I want the players to have. If it didn’t work out, I can live with it. I thought it was the right decision.

49ers QB Trey Lance after loss to Bears: ‘I’ve got a lot to clean up’ | NFL.com
In his first game as leader of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Lance’s bad times outweighed the good in a narrow 19-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Naturally, the second-year QB suffered the brunt of the criticism despite showing up in his third career start.
Lance was quick to list all the mistakes on his own after the loss.
“We made too many mistakes. The defense kept us in the game,” Lance said, via the team’s website. “I had a big miss to Tyler Kroft in the end zone. I tried to throw a perfect ball, but I should have put it directly on him, he was wide open. Turned the ball around, took a sack, then put us out of range of the baskets. Shouldn’t have missed Deebo Samuel on third down, missed another third at Jauan Jennings – just too many errors.

7 winners and 3 losers from Chiefs win over Cardinals
Winners
Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Kansas City’s offense was nearly unstoppable in the first half, and Edwards-Helaire was the center of it all. It was a great start to his season, which featured some pretty explosive plays that included an 18-yard run and a 25-yard catch. The third-year running back finished with 10 touches for 64 yards and two receiving touchdowns. But if the game had been closer in the second half, one would have to think that he might have had more work later on.
Isaiah Pacheco: The back that did owning the second half was the highly touted seventh-round rookie. Pacheco came on to close out the game, getting the job done with his own explosive runs. His 12 carries for 62 yards led all Kansas City running backs. It certainly looks like he’ll be part of the attack this season.
